"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever"

We have many traditions around our house during the month of December, but one of my favorites centers around the book: "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" by Barbara Robinson.

Beginning tomorrow, I will read one chapter a day out loud before our nightly family meeting (the book has seven chapters). The book is about the Herdman kids who are possibly the most disorderly children who have ever lived. They are very poor, so when they learn they can get "free donuts" by going to the local church Sunday School, they eagerly start attending. Soon, they learn the church is hosting auditions for the annual Christmas Pageant, and the Herdmans manage to force themselves into the leading roles.

If you haven't read the book, I would suggest making it a new Christmas tradition in your home. It will fill you with insane laughter and then leave you in a puddle of tears, but most important, it will profoundly remind you of the true meaning behind this season of celebration!

  2. We've long loved this book--it's WAAAAY better to read the book than watch the video in our family's opinion--we watched the vid once and never messed with it again.
