$28,500.00 And Still Counting!

You would think once Lydia announced she had raised OVER her $20,000.00 goal, people would stop giving and just celebrate. At least, in my human nature, that's what I thought.

WRONG!!!

Since yesterday, $2,000.00 more dollars have come in. I am blown away by the generosity. When families learned that Lydia is now raising money to help another family adopt a little one who has Down Syndrome in Eastern Europe, they jumped in and have joined her. Amazing. Well, it is just a miracle, don't you think?

Can you believe it has been suggested several times that Lydia start a ministry called:

"100 FOR 200"

WHAT? An eleven year old leading a ministry effort? I am hesitant to say I doubt anything anymore, so I'll be careful not to voice my doubts and fears.

The ministry would be to gather 200 believers who will commit to donating $100.00 each month through 2010 in order to fund 12 special needs adoptions and save 12 orphans. Lydia would provide a picture of the child each month, details that are known about the child, and fund the adoption. Sounds simple? Yes, unless you are the mother of the daughter who is on a path to save the world. I keep thinking to myself: "she is only eleven."

So, stay tuned and let's see what God is going to do. Lydia keeps saying: "With God, nothing is impossible". All smiles....continuing to skip through the house with Hope in tow right behind her.

  1. I'm sorry I have to comment anonymously. Your family has inspired mine to seriously consider adopting a little boy with DS. Before it was just a pipe dream. Now it seems possible. Thank you.

I am both thrilled and challenged by Lydia's faith! I once was there in my early 20s. I never dreamed I'd be such a spiritual "wimp" in my early 40s. This story has renewed my hope that, even at my age, it may still be possible to live a faithFULL life, pleasing to my Lord.

The Lord bless & keep all of you. May whatever you do prosper. (Psalm 1)

PS - I could barely sleep Wednesday night. I just KNEW God was gonna do this! Prayers were rocketing to His Throne of Grace :)

  8. I, too, am in awe of you Lydia. In fact I am in awe of your whole family. You have certainly boosted my faith. I only wish I had been as unselfish as you as I was living my life. I am a senior citizen (76) and cannot go back. From this point on I do want to make every minute count for what the Lord would have me do. I pray the Lord will give me at least 10 more years in good health to do the kind of unselfish and worthwhile things you are doing and in small ways, as I am able, bless many others as you are doing. So many of us get caught up early in life with "succeeding" according to earthly standards and forget that God would have us live that sacrificial life for others. I have always tried to help others around me as I could but my goal was not as well defined and unselfish as yours and my life was not as selfless as yours. Perhaps that is why true success eluded me. May God's blessings continue to flow into your lives.
Would you consider going for "50 for 400" or "25 for 800" so that more of us could participate as we might not be able to at the $100 level? Never the less go for what the Lord puts in your heart! I know He has great things in store for you. You have proven that faith can indeed move mountains. Our love and prayers continue to come your way. Lois

  10. ....Oh wow, what a fantastic idea, I love it, love it!! After reading about what was happening on your blog Thanksgiving morning I posted a link over from my blog...your story is just too beautiful not to share. I shared that the number of people who had contributed, at that time it was 300, had resonated with me because it only took 300 people to help save Darya and to help another child get home. Lydia you are such an amazing testimony to "if only we would be wiling to be used by God", if only we would respond to those "internal tuggings" who knows what God will do..... and Lydia, what is happening is so amazing. I have a little one with Down syndrome so this is so personal for me. I ache every time I visit the Reece's Rainbow website and see these beautiful children who have been cast aside because of one extra chromosome. Our family is cheering you on over here in CA!!!

  14. Lydia's story has really been an inspiration to my family. My parents donated to the Darya Project. We have been considering adopting a little girl from Reece's Rainbow as well, and this has made it seem possible. I have a few questions/suggestions for your "$100 for 200" ministry and was wondering if you had an email address so that I could contact you?
I'm sixteen years old and would love to follow in Lydia's footsteps. My email is huff1472@cox.net
    Thank you so much,
    Sincerely,
    Rachel

  15. I can attest that money has not, has NOT, been the hardest part of our adoption! it was MY biggest hurdle. But once we said Yes God did the rest. We are still waiting on the Childrens Council to sign our paperwork but know that God continues to be God. Nothing on earth can hold Him back. We can ignore the still small voice in our heart. But once we let go of our adgenda and say yes He is faithful! To anyone that is reading this blog and feels a calling, just say yes! Please pray for us so our little one doesnt have to spend another birthday in the Orphanage. Also, thank you again for sharing the journey with the rest of us. Such a encouragement while we wait to see Gods hand move on our little ones behalf.
